Suicide blast claims lives of 4, injures 30 in Gizri – Karachi - 25 April 2014



KARACHI: At least 4 persons were killed while 30 got serious injuries following a powerful bomb explosion took place in a posh Gizri Defence area of Karachi.

The bomb blast carried out by a suicide bomber targeting Sindh Secretariat officials via colliding a explosive packed vehicle with the governmental car, reports said.

Three governmental vehicles demolished in the incident, including car of Secretary Local Government Saqib Soomro belonging to Sindh government.

The governmental vehicle, GS-5758, might be the target in the incident, local media reported.

Police said that Saqib Soomro was not present inside his vehicle but his driver got serious injuries.

Initial reports by the local police department said that the explosive were installed inside a vehicle present at Chaudhry Khaleeq uz Zaman road near Faizan Jilani Masjid.

Inspector General (IG) Iqbal Mehmood conducted a press conference after reaching the location, said that Improvised Explosive Device (IED) was used to explode at least 10 kilograms of planted explosive material inside a three-wheeler vehicle rickshaw.

Mehmood said that an investigation team has been formed which would led by DG South.

Deceased and injured:

Rescue sources said that the deceased persons include woman while at least 22 persons were shifted to the Jinnah hospital and five amongst them in sensitive conditions.

Two dead bodies has been identified as Faisal and Jahan Zaib and few injured persons named as Zubair, Muhammad Iqbal, Nadeem, Abdul Haq, Shakeel, Rehman and Kabir, reports said.

Intensity of the explosion could be observed as at least 18 vehicles including 10 cars, 5 three-wheeler rickshaws and 3 motorcycles while window glasses and walls cracked after the powerful sound.

Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) reached the location and commenced investigation in the incident whether it was planted or suicide.

Sindh’s Information Minister Sharjeel Memon reached the incident’s site and addressing a media conference over the violent attack.

Sharjeel Memon said that the attackers claimed responsibility of bomb blasts but now they are carrying out violent attacks without taking responsibility.

He said that it is the time to take action against the terrorists despite continuation of dialogues.
