Workshop on result-based performance management begins at HEC - 29 April 2014



ISLAMABAD: A three-day workshop on “Result Based Performance Management” organised by Pak-USAID Merit and Needs based Scholarship Programme began at HEC Secretariat on Monday.

Over 45 participants from public sector universities of four provinces are participating in the workshop, which has been designed with the objective to enhance knowledge and skills of the staff of Financial Aid Offices of the universities, and equip them with the standard tools and techniques of Result-based Performance Management.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Prof. Dr. Raza Bhatti, Member, Human Resource Development, HEC said that the role of Higher Education Commission cannot be denied for achieving the goals of human development and of transition to the knowledge-based economy through its various R&D schemes, local and overseas scholarships and through faculty and infrastructure development programmes.

He appreciated the performance of HEC-US Needs based Scholarship Programme in education sector under which 1807 scholarships were given on merit basis following a transparent procedure. He further appreciated the efforts for supporting training programmes of the focal persons of the partner institutions under Pakistan-USAID Merit and Needs based Scholarship Programme.

Ms. Carri Antal, USAID representative, thanked the HEC for extending its continuous support to achieve the Programme targets. “This scholarship programme is yet another expression of the US-government‘s long term commitment to build a stronger, more prosperous and Roshan Pakistan. USAID is committed to awarding 3000 more scholarships in next five years to support talented youth of Pakistan”.

It may be mentioned here that second phase of the programme has been launched which will enable over 3000 youth of Pakistan to pursue their education in top Agriculture, Medical, Business, Engineering and General universities of Pakistan. Fifty per cent of the scholarships are for female students. The scholarship includes payment of tuition as well as stipend to cover transportation, books, lodging and incidental charges. Phase-II will also provide 16 foreign scholarships to female students.
