ISLAMABAD: On the call of Punjab Bar Council (PBC), ‘black day’ is being observed by lawyers in Pakistan today (Monday) in remembrance of May 12, 2007 incident during the judiciary’s restoration movement.
All judicial work at the high court and district courts remained suspended and litigants were given new dates for their cases. At the high court, all urgent cases were put off till Tuesday
Many protest rallies will be organized today with the intention of recording peaceful protest and remembering the martyrs of ‘May 12’ incident.
It is to be mentioned here that on May 12, 2007, when former Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry who sacked by former military ruler Pervez Musharraf came to Karachi, riots broke out in the city, killing more than 50 people and injuring several others.
