Di Villiers will have to leave the wicket-keeping if he wants to take captain responsibility for team.
Proteas batsman Di Villiers is playing with Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the Indian Premier League (IPL 7).
He has played so far 92 Test, 159 one-days and 57 T20 internationals in his career.
