Disastrous rainfall kills four, injures 26 in Punjab - 12 May 2014



LAHORE: Emergency has been imposed in Faisalabad after disastrous rain in the city, which killed as many as four persons including two women and 26 others also injured.

Around 23 mm rain has been recorded so far and the government officials have forcefully shut down factories to decrease the flow of water.

The District Coordination Officer said that various sign boards have fallen due to heavy rain and storm, which also caused break up of mud houses of the area.

The rain struck in the areas, Khanewal, Muzaffargarh, Hafizabad, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Chunian, Lahore, Sialkot, Chichawatni.

Moreover, some casualties were reported in the result of lightening incidents in Rawalpindi and Pakpatan areas of Punjab. Meanwhile the weather turned pleasant in most areas of the country due to rainfall.

Two young men died when lightning struck them in the area of Kahuta near Rawalpindi.

Two residents belonging to the Kahuta sub-district went searching for employment on motorcycles, when due to heavy rain they sought shelter under a tree.

However, unfortunately lightning struck them killing both on the spot.

The dead bodies were shifted to Tehsil Headquarter Hospital Kahuta where family members gathered to claim them. After post-mortem the bodies would be given to the relatives.

Meanwhile two persons were also killed in the result of the lightening in Arifwala sub-district of Pakpatan.
