KARACHI: Indian bookies tried to trick Pakistani cricketer Umar Akmal two years ago during a series against England held in UAE.
Akmal received suspicious calls from an unknown number but the batsman immediately informed International Cricket Council (ICC) anti corruption unit.
According to sources, Akmal received call after call from various Indian numbers. The suspicious caller offered money to Akmal and wanted him to play poorly.
But Akmal did not fall for the bribe and immediately told ICC anti-corruption and security unit as per the established procedure.
ICC officials appreciated Akmal for his behaviour and started investigation on the phone numbers provided by the young Pakistani batsman.
