ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan’s federal government on Tuesday decided to bring back its nationals detained in Guantanamo Bay Detention Camp by US authorities.
Pakistan government has reportedly taken firm decision to claim back Pakistani detainees present in the infamous Guantanamo Bay prison, local media reported.
The Ministry of Interior has been asked to complete necessary arrangements and strategies for completion of the given task; while ‘five Pakistani prisoners’ will be brought back to the country in first phase of the process, the report quoted government sources.
US government would be contacted for the nationals present as detainees in the Guantanamo Bay prison cells, which was taken into custody on different junctures during US-administered ‘War Against Terror’ after the WTC 9/11 incident.
The report has not given the exact figure of prisoners belonging to Pakistan, however, it is not clear whether the prisoners would be taken back via extradition or some other agreement.
The Guantanamo Bay detention camp is running under administration of United States military, located within Guantanamo Bay Naval Base, which fronts on Guantánamo Bay in Cuba, established in January 2002.
