ISLAMABAD: Minister for Commerce Engineer Khurram Dastagir Khan has said that Pakistan and the United States intend to increase the volume of bilateral trade to seven billion dollars in the next five years.
Addressing a press conference in Islamabad on Wednesday he said bilateral trade between Pakistan and United States is worth 5.3 billion dollars and the balance of trade is tilted in Pakistan’s favour as its imports are confined to 1.8 billion dollars from the United States.
The Minister said that the government is working on promoting trade with United State.
He said Pakistan and United state will work together in different fields to the mutual benefit.
Khurram Dastgir said during his recent visit to the United States, the two countries discussed a variety of trade and investment issues and exchangee views to chart out a path forward on improving bilateral trade and investment flows over the next five years.
The Minister said the two countries agreed on a Joint Action Plan to expand bilateral trade. The plan envisages cooperation in diversifying agricultural production; enhancing intellectual property protection, increasing trade in services; and increasing dialogue between private sectors of the two countries.
He said both the countries would immediately begin work on implementing the Joint Action Plan.
He said Pakistan and the United States also signed an MoU on Joint Efforts to Empower Women and to Promote Women’s Enterpreneurship. This is historic MoU that will provide a mechanism for discussion on how to help women participate fully in the economy.
