ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s information minister Pervez Rasheed said on Wednesday that government has no intention to interfere in Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) and the fate of Geo TV lies with the authority.
Speaking to media persons outside the Parliament House, Rasheed said that Geo’s issue was a semi-judicial matter. “PEMRA has given its point of view. We have asked the authority to decide the case as per the law,” he said.
“PEMRA is an independent and powerful body. We are not interfering in their matters,” he stated.
The information minister said that there were 22 stay orders on decisions given by the media watchdog about various media groups.
Rasheed pointed out apology is considered as admission of mistake in the civilized world and that it has great importance.
“All of us respect Pakistan Army which is carrying the country’s flag,” he added.
