PM Nawaz Sharif likely to attend Narendra Modi’s swearing-in ceremony - 22 May 2014

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister of Pakistan Nawaz Sharif is most likely to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Narenda Modi in India, scheduled on May 26.

According to a report published in an Indian newspaper “Economic Times”, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has shown positive response to the invitation and it is very much possible that PML-N’s prime minister will accept the invitation.

PML-N member Siddiqui Farooq told the Indian newspaper, “Mr Nawaz Sharif may attend the event to reciprocate the gesture shown by the incoming government of India. If the PM visits Delhi he will tell Mr Modi to assure him of his cooperation to improve ties.”

But according to the Pakistan’s Foreign Office spokesperson Tasneem Aslam, it has not been decided yet whether PM Nawaz will go to the ceremony or not.

According to various analysts, Sharif might not go to India because of Modi’s hateful comments regarding Pakistan during his election campaign.

India has invited the leaders of all SAARC countries to attend Narendra Modi’s swearing-in ceremony.
