Ek Villain's 'Awari' Was Composed for a Television Show

The song ‘Awari’ from the film ‘Ek Villain’ was making headlines not just because of Prachi Desai’s sultry avatar in the video, but also because of the music the band Soch created. The two member band comprising – Rabbi and Adnan Dhool- has their hopes held high as the release date of the film is nearing.
In a conversation with Radioandmusic.com’s Dhairya Ingle, Rabbi revealed, “We had made this song ‘Awari’ for one of the programmes in Pakistan called ‘Nescafe Basement’, which is similar to Coke Studio. The song just had the vocals of male from a female perspective.
The original track had the vocals of Dhool, but later added the vocals of Momina Mustehsan as the situation in the film demanded a duet. He said that working with Balaji Telefilms was an amazing experience mainly because they were flexible enough and would like to team up with Indian music composers. “A year back I was watching the movie ‘Aashiqui 2′ with my friends and was hoping to work for a project like this, and then we never knew that we would get a chance to work with Mohitbhai. Today, our name appears in the credit list that also features names of most popular music composers like Mithoon and Ankit Tiwari,” exclaimed Rabbi.

Talking about the songwriting process, Dhool said, “If Rabbi is playing a guitar I come up with some words and a tune randomly. Like there is no word called ‘Awari’. The word ‘Awara’ is used for both sexes. During one of the exams, I was asked what was the female word used for awara and it was then I came up with this word ‘awari’, thus I used this in my song.”
The duo was confident that the song would be picked up by someone because of the story line of the track. “The song was based on a girl who fell in love with a boy and after getting ditched she becomes a restless soul,” explained Dhool. The band had to alter the situation as the situation in the movie demanded that a lady in the brothel is in love with a married man.
The film ‘EK Villain’ is slated to release on 27 June, 2014.
