Forced shutdown continues in Karachi despite MQM’s announcement - 5th June 2014



KARACHI: Karachi citizens once again facing terrible situation today after continuous two-day closure of routines following political reaction by Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) over Altaf Hussain’s detainment.

Unidentified persons have forcefully shut down business centers and daily activities by spreading terror via aerial firing and threatening attitude before Karachi citizens.

Protests sparked in the metropolis of Pakistan and many cities of Sindh province since June 3 arrestment of MQM chief Altaf Hussain by Scotland Yard’s squad in London in accusation of money laundering.

According to reports, unidentified gunmen threatened local traders and citizens with severe consequences and forced him to shut down all activities.

The major affected areas of the metropolis include Aurangi Town, Nazimabad, Bandhani Colony, Shah Faisal, Landhi, Lateefabad, Tower, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Malir, Al-Falah Colony, Liberty market, Hyderi and some areas of Sadar market.

MQM’s Rabitta Committee condemned such activities for forceful closure of public activities in the city; clarified that the persons involved in such activities have no political affiliation with MQM.

‘Such moves should be considered as defamation attempt against MQM,’ Rabita Committee said.

Prominent leader of the political party Farooq Sattar also held a press conference while staging sit-in in Numaish Chaurangi.

Sattar rejected any involvement with the persons performing anti-peace activities in the city and forcing citizens to close their routine and trade activities.

He further said that criminals have taken advantage of the situation in order to complete their ulterior motives against MQM.
