ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan said that his party is supporting military operation against terrorists in North Waziristan
Speaking to media persons outside the Parliament House, Imran Khan lamented that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government, which would bear the burden of interlay-displaced people (IDPs) was not consulted prior to the operation.
“We must stand behind the army now as operation has already begun,” he stressed. “We pray that operation is successful and peace is restored,”
“I and Chief Minister Pervaiz Khattak came to know about the operation through TV. We were not taken into confidence,” he said.
The PTI chief said that Nawaz Sharif should show have announced the launching of military operation, not army.
Khan maintained that government should negotiate with groups, who are still willing for peaceful settlement.
“Have we thought about 7000, 000 people residing in North Waziristan? Where will they go during the bombing?” he questioned.
The PTI chief said that government should take the political parties on board about the post-operation scenario.
Meanwhile Imran Khan on Monday endorsed the military operation underway in North Waziristan, the party’s deputy secretary general and media advisor to PTI chairman told a private TV channel.
Imran Ismail said that in a core committee meeting of the PTI in the capital, Imran Khan maintained that the party stands by the army and endorses the operation. However, he said the chairman expressed reservations regarding the government’s failure to inform the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government prior to the announcement.
PTI’s core committee meeting held under the chair of Imran Khan to discuss law and order situation in KPK. The meeting decided to back military operation in North Waziristan Agency.
Addressing the core committee meeting, Imran Khan said that the operation would help curb terrorism from the country. The meeting called for enhancing security across Khyber Pakhtonkhwa as part of a security measure during the action against militants.
PTI members said that arrangements should be made for IDPs as around seven lac people would displace amid military operation.
