Salman is most interactive while Aamir is the least
Aamir Khan

Twitter id: @aamir_khan

Tweets: 142

Followers: 7.53 million followers

Twitter personality: The reticent Aamir Khan, who talks to the media only when his films are up for a release follows the same modus operandi on Twitter too. No wonder then, the actor, who does only one film a year has posted only 142 posts so far! Incidentally, he was coaxed into joining Twitterverse by Amitabh Bachchan four years ago. Aamir was said to have been put off by the trolls he got on the site and kept away for the longest. He was back on the networking site when he was coming up with his TV show Satyamev Jayate and since then has been taking to Twitter only during his or his friends’ releases. He went all out to promote Salman Khan’s Jai Ho urging his followers to watch the film and is now promoting Kick. Even Rani Mukerji’s upcoming film Mardaani’s trailer has found a mention with Aamir calling it ‘awesome’. He has been using the platform to shower praise on films and performances that he’s liked like Queen and Marathi film Fandry. He also posted a picture of his meeting with the Prime Minister Narendra Modi. His last tweet invited people to watch a charity football match organised by his daughter Ira.

Tweeting style: To the point and neat, he dotts all his i’s and crosses the t’s.

Interactivity: He was more interactive immediately after he joined Twitter, but after that has been responding only to tweets from fellow celebrities. For instance a couple of years ago, for Katrina’s birthday he tweeted, ‘Hey Salman! What’s up? Wish Katrina from me too.’ When Lata Mangeshkar praised his show Sataymev Jayate, he tweeted back, “Thank you Didi for your generous words. Am absolutely thrilled that you are watching SMJ, and that you like it so much! Love.A.” Needless to say his other followers who had tweeted about the show felt neglected and wrote, “Hey, its not fair. Now that you’re here, you gotta reply to All of us, not just Lata Mangeshkar ji.”

Shah Rukh Khan

Tweets: 7,389

Followers: 8.32 million

Twitter personality: King Khan has a love-hate relationship with the Twitteratis. His first tweet when he joined Twitter in January 2010 was “Being extremely shy, I never thought I would be here (on Twitter). But my friend Karan Johar insisted that I should learn to share my life.” And that is something SRK has done on a regular basis – shared his life. Besides tweeting about his films, Shah Rukh Khan has been writing about his thoughts, his day-to-day routine, his kids, his love for sports, etc, giving a glimpse into his life away from the arc lights. A prolific tweeter, SRK had taken a brief sabbatical from the site when his interview to a magazine about his being a Muslim and his patriotism doubted by some bigots got him a lot of flak on Twitter. Four months later he returned to Twitter thanks to his Chennai Express co-star Deepika Padukone who posted a picture from the film, which SRK retweeted. Since then the Badshah has been posting tweets regularly, the last one being about how he had a good day “like the laughter of his children, even untouched by me.”

Tweeting style: Witty, at times self-deprecatory and sarcastic, SRK’s tweets mirror his personality. Sports, current affairs, and of course films are a constant fixture on his account. When Karan Johar admitted on twitter that he is watching football only because the world is, SRK tweeted back saying, “It’s ok to accept.V all like what’s ‘happening’. Just so u know Germany in White Argentima in Blue. The round thing is the ball.” Need we say more?

Interactivity: When a fan posted her picture with SRK in the Kolkata Knight Rider uniform, SRK replied, “Thank you that’s very sweet.” The fan is yet to get over the fact that she’s got a reply and has even tweeted that! That apart, SRK has been posting his sketches drawn by his and commenting on each. That he reads each and every tweet posted by his followers, even if he doesn’t replay to all is evident from his post, “A request to all. By sending me stuff over and over again it becomes difficult to see other tweets. I take notice of all even written once.” He, however, tweets and replies to celebrities.

Salman Khan

Twitter id: @BeingSalmanKhan

Tweets: 41,347

Followers: 7.48 million

Twitter personality: Emerging as the actor with maximum tweets so far the superstar who has been on Twitter since 2010 has used the platform to not only promote his film, but also his charity organisation Being Human. He has also used it to justify his stance on various issues especially during Bigg Boss, taking subtle digs (the recent fracas with photographers), etc and promoting his friends’ films too. Salman had quit Twitter within four months of joining when his comments on the Mumbai Terror Attack to a Pakistani channel sparked a controversy. He later apologised and was back

Tweeting style: He tweets like he talks. Extremely casual, with a mix of Hindi and English, even Marathi, his tweets are sometimes funny, sometimes droll. When a paper carried a news about photographers banning him he just tweeted Ha ha ha with a snapshot of the article!

Intereactivity: Khan may not individually reply to his followers’ tweets but he definitely makes a note of what they are saying and responds to it collectively.

Amitabh Bachchan

Twitter id: @SrBachchan

Tweets: 32,259

Followers: 9.43 million

Twitter personality: He was the first superstar to start a blog of his own, so it was a matter of time before he joined Twitter. He writes about his day, the shoot, posts pictures from his films, and also pens some philosophical thoughts and phrases. He also uses it to make important announcements like declaring the name of his granddaughter Aaradhya. Constantly updating his posts through the, the 71-year-old legend can give the tech-savvy youngsters a run for their tweets.

Tweeting style: His tweets reflect his wry sense of humour and dignity. Sample this: ” Long years ago when in my 30′s a close friend told me: ‘You will make a very interesting old man’ Interesting gone, old remains.” And yes, he never uses abbreviated words – his sentences are grammatically proper and complete.

Interactivity: The Shahenshah is the one of the most interactive celebrity on Twitter taking out time to reply to most of his followers’ tweets. From wishing them on their birthdays to giving them hugs, Big B does it all.

Ajay Devgn

Twitter id: @ajaydevgn

Tweets: 995

Followers: 2.25 million

Twitter personality: The Singham star has been on Twitter for five years now, but Ajay seems to be active on the site only close to his film releases. Known to be a man of few words, Ajay has posted only 995 tweets in five years. Lately his account is flooded with posters of his upcoming film Singham Returns. Yes, he does tweet about his family, especially daughter Nysa who seems to have impressed him with the lingo, kids use these days. The proud papa has been asking his followers to give the full forms of some of the short forms used by his daughter and her friends.

Tweeting style: Matter-of-fact and informative about his films and friends.

Interactivity: Suffice it to say he pretty much keeps to himself even on Twitter! When on his birthday a fan drew his picture in rangoli he tweeted, “Dis guy sat outside 4hrs an painted dis on d street wit rangoli. So much luv. Truly grateful 2 all of u’all for dat.”

Hrithik Roshan

Twitter id: @iHrithik

Tweets: 1,411

Followers: 6 million

Twitter personality: Hrithik is slightly better than Ajay with 1,411 tweets since he joined in February 2010. Off late the actor has been taking to the site regularly and posting pictures from his films, getting nostalgic about Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara suggesting a sequel to director Zoya! On a serious note he has paid his respects to the firemen who risked their lives to douse the fire at the building in which his father Rakesh Roshan owns an office. He has also been tweeting about love, life, friendship and relationships.

Tweeting style: His tweets reflect the mood he is in. Take this for instance: “if ur uncom4table wth d way things r, reframe it. Even something huge cn look really small. Life is al abt perspective!” which he tweeted last month. His sense of humour surfaces with friends though. When Nargis Fakhri tweeted that she wanted to go to Disneyland when he posted his pictures from there he tweeted, “yeah. careful if ur coming tho, People may mistake u as the main park attraction!! Safety not guaranteed!”

Interactivity: Must say when he is in the mood, the Greek God sees fit to respond to many of his six million followers, not just friends and colleagues from the industry. When a fan tweeted about him being an inspiration, he tweeted back saying, “Now U inspire me back! thank you my friend.”

Abhishek Bachchan

Twitter id: @juniorbachchan

Tweets: 18,903

Followers: 4.51 million

Twitter personality: One of the earliest film stars to get onto the Twitter bandwagon, Abhishek mostly tweets about sports – be it football, cricket or kabbadi. The latter has taken up much space on his account, as he owns a kabbadi team now. He posts encouraging tweets on others’ films apart from promoting his films, of course. He also puts up interesting titbits about his day on the sets or his travel. That junior Bachchan keeps himself abreast with the happenings around the world is reflected in his tweets whether it’s about the Malaysian aircraft being gunned down, reminding people to vote or about the importance of earth hour.

Tweeting style: Lively and the on-the-go, Abhishek’s tweet buzz with happenings. Add to it is wry sense of humour and it becomes engaging.

Interactivity: Abhishek has been actively interacting with his fans lately. He takes the bouquets and the brickbats sportingly. When a fan tweeted asking him to give a hit movie, “Thak gya hu tera pakau movie dekh dekh ke…” he replied, “Sorry about that. By the way, koi force nahin kar raha aapko. Good luck.” Now that’s we call giving it back in style!

Akshay Kumar

Twitter id: @akshaykumar

Tweets: 2196

Followers: 5.26 million

Twitter personality: The Khiladi is among those actors, who are most active on Twitter during their film releases. Considering Akshay always has more than a couple of films releasing in a year, the ones he stars in and the ones he produces, one would expect the actor to have a lot of tweets. However, Akshay who joined Twitter way back in 2009 has only 2196 tweets so far. His tweets are all about his upcoming films, ads and some videos and articles that have impressed him.

Tweeting style: Simple and straight, his tweets are sans any frills.

Interactivity: The actor recently retweeted a fan’s tweet who was entreating him to either reply or retweet! Not only that Akshay makes it a point to respond to as many people as possible making him one of the most interactive Twitteratis. When a fan tweeted to him saying he had broken his heart by not replying to him he promptly said, ‘I don’t mean to break your heart, chin up my friend.” It’s obvious that Akshay cares for his fans, which is what makes him their numero uno khiladi!
