Amit Sadh, who is presently in USA to audition for the Actor’s Studio held by the prestigious Lee Strasberg Theater and Film Institute, was reportedly held at the airport and detained for 6 hours for carrying a knife. However, after the long interrogation it came out that the whole thing was just a misunderstanding between the authorities. The knife that Amit was carrying was the Kirpan (holy knife) which is carried by every Sikh as a part of their religious attire. A leading daily stated, “Reportedly Amit Sadh was detained at New York airport & was interrogated for 6 hours for carrying holy knife, Kirpan.”
With so many Sikhs travelling to the US every day, it was surprising that a misunderstanding about the Kirpan would arise. Sources claim that the authorities got confused because Amit doesn’t wear a turban. Later on the things came back to normal when an Indian official among the authorities came forward and helped to sort out the mess.
If we recall Amit has gone there to pay a tribute to Raj Kapoor by performing on scenes from his film at the audition. We hope this incident would not have hampered his performance.
