We heard rumours that Pakistan is sending its first contestant in half a century to the Miss Universe pageant, in another sign that the Islamic republic nation is undergoing dramatic change. The supermodel Pakistani ayyan will represent Pakistan in Miss Universe contest as Miss Pakistan of 2014, being the first time Pakistan will participate in this contest.
To Islamic society, a Pakistani Muslim woman showing skin would be a public slap against Islam and a national embarrassment. For months, the Miss Pakistan Foundation have been trying to win public support before deciding whether to enter the international competition. They point to countries such as Egypt and Turkey, which send contestants to Miss Universe without problems.”Many Muslim countries have joined the pageant,” said one supporter. “My family doesn’t even think it’s a problem.” This is hardly the first time a beauty contest has run up against Pakistani conservative, who believe women always should dress modestly. Most international pageants require women to wear a swimsuit, either a one-piece or a bikini.
