After staring in Parker Pens ad with Amitabh Bachchan, the doe eyed beauty shot to fame for her cute looks and expressions. Boys

In the year 2003, after making a making a mark with her Bollywood debut Tujhe Meri Kasam, she was cast opposite Siddharth in Shankar’s cult coming of age film Boys. Genelia played the character of rich girl Harini who defies all obstacles to be with her love. The film came under severe criticism initially for its bold theme, but later on received a cult status becoming a benchmark for youth and college oriented films. Boys gave Genelia her first memorable role.

Happy

After doing a handful of roles in Tamil and Telugu, she was cast opposite Allu Arjun in 2006 hit Telugu flick Happy. The film is popular for its terrific chemistry between its leads Genelia and Allu Arjun. Genelia had lots of scope for performance in this film and she does exceptionally well, exceeding all expectations.

Bommarillu/Santosh Subramaniam

Genelia gave her best performance till date when she joined hands again with Siddharth to give Telugu blockbuster Bommarillu. The Tollywood film was later remade into Tamil film Santosh Subramaniam with Jayam Ravi and Genelia as the leads. The pretty diva as Hasini showed her chirpy bubble side, making the audience fall for her child like charm. It is beyond doubt the most iconic role played by Mrs Deshmukh in her entire career.

In 2008, after casting a spell on the masses with Bommarillu, Genelia paired with Ram in the superhit film Ready which was later remade into Tamil with Dhanush as the hero. The twinkling eyed beauty, with her girl next door looks, gave spirited performances in both the films, setting a benchmark for chirpy, bubbly, full of life characters for years to come.

Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na

JTYJN was a stepping stone in Genelia’s acting career as she gave a spirited performance as a fiery spoilt brat affectionately called as Meow. The film marked the debut of Imran Khan and it went on to be a runaway hit. The film was basically a love story, but dealt with themes of friendship and jealousy between the two leads.
