On her birthday, we look at Kajol’s most popular on-screen roles till date
She doesn’t like parties but loves her books. She may not be the most outgoing celeb on the block, but makes her presence felt with her impactful performances nonetheless.
Dusky, light eyed and outright gorgeous, Kajol has ruled B-town since her Baazigar days and is considered as one of the most powerful actors in the industry. On her birthday, we give you a sneak peak at some of the most popular roles essayed by the bong beauty:
Simple Si Simran
Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge still stands as one of the most iconic love stories in the archives of Indian cinema. Kajol played the role of Simran, a hopeless romantic who had a prince charming Raj (Shah Rukh Khan) to sweep her off her feet. Donning delicate salwar suits and minimal make-up, Kajol made a petite and pretty Simran indeed.
Tale of two twins
Kajol played the role of Sonia and Naina Sehgal, twin sisters, in her 1998 film Dushman. Seen in a chic short hairdo with casual shirts and tees, Kajol pulled off her sporty boyish look with ease. Her role received critical acclaim and the beauty was credited for successfully essaying the role of two opposite personalities.
Anjali and her non-girly ways
The character name Anjali has been made popular by Kajol and the actor was seen playing the same in Karan Johar’s sensational 1998 film Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. Sporting a short bob hairdo, topped with funky dangrees and sneakers, Kajol’s character in the film was refreshing to watch. With her unique get ups and basketball skills, Kajol made a rather appealing tomboy indeed!
Anjali, Chandni Chowk wali
Passionate about Shayaris, Sachin Tendulkar and her “mera bharat mahaan” mentality, Kajol as Anjali in Karan Johar’s Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham was a rather entertaining character hailing from the gullies of Delhi’s famous Chandni Chowk. The actor was seen in a shimmering avatar donning chunky bangles and jhumkas on top of colorful Patiala salwars.
The Zesty Zooni
Full of zeal, valor and zest for life, Zooni never let her blindness get in the way of her fun, as played by Kajol in the film Fanaa opposite Aamir Khan. Dressed in pastal colored kurtas topped with delicate jewellery, Kajol made a pretty Zooni with her simple make-up and attire. Her role was considered as a comeback and received much appreciation by the public.
