While most filmmakers avoid competition at the box office, come September as many as seven films will release on the same day
Parineeti Chopra and Aditya Roy Kapur starrer Daawat-e-Ishq was supposed to release on September 5 alongside Priyanka Chopra’s much-awaited film Mary Kom. However, the release date of Daawat-e-Ishq has been changed and the romantic drama will now hit the screens on September 19. What’s interesting is that six more films are releasing on the same day – Sonam Kapoor and Fawad Khan’s Khoobsurat, Anurag Kashyap’s directorial venture Ugly, Richa Chadda starrer Tamanche, Neha Dhupia and Anupam Kher’s Ekkees Toppon Ki Salaami, Mika Singh and Shaan’s acting debut Balwinder Singh…Famous Ho Gaya and lastly Roar directed by yesteryear actor Kamal Sadanah. Well, the box office battle sure can’t get any bigger than this but at the same wethinks only or two out of the seven films will manage to rake in big moolah which isn’t good, hai na?
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh told a leading daily, “It’s ridiculous. Forget getting business, how would you find screens and shows? Yash Raj is in a commanding position. So is Disney with Khoobsurat.” he further added, “I don’t understand how and why? It’s not a festive date, nor is it a holiday or a long weekend. It’s come as a bit of a shock.”
Initially, director Vishal Mahadkar’s horror flick 3 A.M. was also slated to release on 19 September but the film starring Rannvijay Singh has been shifted to September 26. Wise move! But will other filmmakers follow suit? We hope so…
