Jacqueline Fernandez is the latest to join the bandwagon of actresses who went to the West. Apart from actors like Om Puri, Anil Kapoor, Anupam Kher and Naseeruddin Shah, actresses too have tried to make a mark in Hollywood, and failed…

Here is looking at all the divas who tried to broaden their horizons…

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan: She is one Bollywood star who has shone the most on the Hollywood canvas. With films like The Pink Panther 2 and The Last Legion, she made her presence felt in the Western cinema scene. The most beautiful actress of India also received the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the Government of France in 2012. But both her Hollywood projects couldn’t help her secure a strong position in Hollywood.

Jacqueline Fernandez: The Roy actress recently bagged the lead role in a Hollywood thriller titled Definition of Fear and while the verdict is yet to be out on her performance, we hope that Jackie makes India proud!

Priyanka Chopra: It may not be the dream Hollywood debut for many, but PC started off her acting career in the West with an animation film! That’s right! Priyanka lent her voice to a character named Ishani in the 3D animation Disney film Planes. What a cute Hollywood debut, hai na? Well despite the cuteness Planes was tagged as a ‘Disney disappointment’ and sadly PC’s Hollywood debut failed to create a stir.

Bipasha Basu: She debuted with one of Hollywood’s hottest stars, Josh Hartnett but that couldn’t save Basu’s Singularity at the Box office. Bips’ film failed to give her international recognition.

Mallika Sherawat: This is one actress who seemed to have preferred and chosen Hollywood over Bollywood time and again. With films like The Myth opposite Jackie Chan, Hiss, and Politics of Love aka Love, Barack she forayed into the Western film scene all guns blazing and decided to put her Bollywood career on hold. The idea didn’t reap her much of a fruit, if we may add.

Despite them trying to be as popular as they are back home, most of these leading ladies didn’t get their due abroad. Actresses of Indian origin like Freida Pinto and Mindy Kaling fared better than these desi beauties. Nevertheless, with more and more desi divas entering into the world of Hollywood we hope that Bollywood actresses get more recognition outside of Bollywood.
