Profile Allama Syed Hasan Zafar Naqvi is a scion of the 'Aal-e Ghufraan Ma'ab', descendants of Ayatullah Syed Dildar Ali Naqvi (1753-1820). Other recent famous personalities from this house include Syed ul Ulama Ayatullah Syed Ali Naqi un Naqvi better known as Naqqan sahab (1905-1988), Maulana Hasan Zafar's maternal grandfather Maulana Syed Kalbe Hussain (d. 1963), his maternal uncles Maulana Syed Kalbe Abid (d. 1986) and Dr. Syed Kalbe Sadiq, and his first cousin Maulana Syed Kalbe Jawwad, besides his paternal grandfather, the famous poet of Ahlebait a.s Syed Kalbe Ahmed Mani Jaesi. Maulana Hasan Zafar graduated from Karachi University and has a Master's degree from Tehran University with specialization in 'Politics of Religion'. He attended the famous Feyzieh seminary (madrassa) in Qum to attain the level of Hujjetul Islam, and then returned to Pakistan to serve his community. Prior to leaving for Iran for studies he was active in the Imamia Students Organization (ISO) during the dark days of tyrant General Zia, and suffered jail and flogging as part of struggle to defend azadari. Upon his return he was active in the Tehrik-e Jafria as its Senior Vice President in Sindh till he left it due to his reservations about its leadership. He founded the Jafria Alliance Pakistan (JAP) and led its 'Jail Bharo' movement in 2001 to protest against target killings of eminent Shi'a Muslims. He has been the moving spirit behind the activation of Shaheed Foundation Pakistan and Imam Sajjad a.s Foundation (for aseeraan), and currently heads the Anjuman-e Wazeefa-e Sadaat-o Momineen, a scholarship fund. He is a member of the Shura-e Aali of the Majlis-e Wahdat-e Muslimeen (MWM), a group formed in August 2009 protection and defence of Shi'a rights. He is an eminent orator who has graced the minbar of Ahlebait for over 15 years now, and has reformed the community through zikr- Husain a.s in his owm inimitable style. Besides transcription of some of his majalis, viz. History of Ka'aba, Amir Mukhtar, Imamat & Mulukiat, he has also written a book 'Nishan-e-Rah' (Milestone) where he has analyzed the problems of Pakistani tashayyu and suggested practical remedies. Maulana "Hasan" Zafar is also an excellent poet who has written a lot of poetry in praise of the AhleBait (a.s), though any compilation is yet to be produced.
