One of India’s most loved novelist turned screenplay writer plans to venture into something new. Read on to find out more…
Chetan Bhagat has been a hot favourite among Bollywood filmmakers because of his novels. All the movies based on his novel’s adaptations have done well at the box office and this has urged the novelist turned screenplay writer to move into movie production with his upcoming Half Girlfriend. We wonder what else is he going to take up on his plate? Will he turn actor as well in the coming years? We wonder…
Chetan Bhagat has been greedy right from the start of his career and that was very good because, unless you have that greed you never end up being successful and famous. But now it seems the Kick screenplay writer wants even more. His upcoming novel Half Girlfriend has yet not been released and blockbuster directer Mohit Suri has already bought the rights to make a film on the novel. But it seems Chetan is not going to let Mohit have all the cheery on the cake. Speaking to a leading daily Chetan confirmed, “I’ve been very lucky as far as the film adaptations of my books go, now it is time for me to make the transition.” So what was that urge to turn film producer? Couldn’t he just stick to doing what he did best aka writing?
Chetan explains that as a producer he will have more creative control over the filmmaking process.”Right from the pre-production to shooting and marketing the film, I will be completely involved in every aspect and this will enable me to take decisions outside of my writing,” he explains while chatting with a leading daily. So that means that he is interested in producing films of other writers as well? Right? “Right now, the priority is Half Girlfriend. The book isn’t even out yet. Depending on the response and my experience as a first-time producer, I will take a call on future projects. I’m lucky to have found a partner and director in Mohit whom everybody is chasing right now,” Chetan informs.
Getting to Half Girlfriend, how did he convince the Aashiqui 2 director for the film adaptation. He retorts, “The love story sealed the deal for us (Mohit and Chetan). The film will be set in Bihar, Delhi and New York. We’ll begin working on it after I am done with my current commitments.”
