On 14 September, Sunday the Times of India tweeted: “OMG: Deepika Padukone's cleavage show”, along with a link to the related story. She was furious and up in arms against the daily on Twitter which published a rather demeaning piece of news about her dressing at an event. Deepika Padukone had worn a low cut dress designed by Anaita Shroff Adajania for the trailer of launch of ‘Chennai Express’ last year. This dress had come under the daily’s scanner for the low cut design. The daily, on Sunday morning, reframed and retweeted the photo-story.
When Deepika got to read the tweet followed by a picture gallery of similar dressing faux-pas, she lost her calm and gave the news portal a befitting reply. The actress was not ready to be humiliated. Deepika has over 7 million followers on Twitter and in almost no time her tweetS spread like wildfire.
An angry Padukone responded on Twitter: "YES! I am a Woman. I have breasts AND a cleavage! You got a problem!!??"
"Supposedly India's 'LEADING' newspaper and this is 'NEWS'!!??", Padukone wrote on her Twitter account on Sunday."Don't talk about Woman's Empowerment when YOU don't know how to RESPECT Women!" she added.
The daily later put out a tweet urging her to consider it a compliment. The story and tweet has since been removed, but not before Padukone shared an angry response on Twitter.“It's a compliment! You look so great that we want to make sure everyone knew! :)” read the tweet.
Several Bollywood celebrities and hundreds of fans have come out in support of the actress and #IStandWithDeepikaPadukone was the top trend on Twitter in India on Monday.
As Deepika Padukone lashed out at a leading daily newspaper for objectification of women's body by tweeting about her cleavage, Bollywood and other celebs stood in support of the 'Finding Fanny' actress and praised her courage to speak out.
Priyanka Chopra: Well done @deepikapadukone ! Taken a stand for all of us. Xoxo

The 28-year-old actress - one of Bollywood’s highest-paid stars - has appeared in films such as the Chennai Express, Om Shanti Om and Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani. She currently stars in romantic comedy Finding Fanny, which was released in India on Friday 12 September. The daily newspaper replied to Padukone, telling her she should treat the comment as a “compliment”. The post has since been deleted.
