There were rumours that the Life Of Pi actor was thrown out of Vashu Bhagnani’s film. But the Paan Singh Tomar actor sets the record straight by opening up. Read on to find out…
Irrfan Khan has always been known as a no nonsense guy. But recently he was surrounded by a lot of controversy when Vashu Bhagnani‘s statement came that The Lunchbox star was asked to leave Welcome To Karachi because of his starry airs. Irrfan cleared his stand yesterday while speaking to a leading daily.
When asked as to why he decided to leave the film Irrfan informs, “All the work was done haphazardly. They didn’t show me any audition tapes. A heroine was finalised in London. I asked Vashuji who this girl is. ‘She is my responsibility…’ is all he told me. So I was like, ‘It’s not going to work like this.’ Then, he told me, ‘If you want to do the film, do it. If you don’t, then you can opt out.’ So I asked him to go ahead without me.” But we all saw him attend the muhurat of the film. Was all well between the two at that point of time? We wonder…
Irrfan retorts by telling the leading daily, “He told me the media would ask why I wasn’t there. He asked me to come for it, and not disclose anything to the media. At that time, he also asked me to do a supporting role in the film, and I agreed. On the day of the mahurat, I even returned the money (paid earlier as a signing fee for the lead role). Everything was fine until he came out with this story. I was never supposed to go (to London). That was clear on the mahurat day.” But wan’t Irrfan attached to the project even before Vashu Bhagnani came on board as a producer? We wonder…
Irrfan informs, “I was working on the script for the past one-and-a half years, along with Ashish (R Mohan, director). But Ashish and the previous producer had their differences, so Vashuji came on board. He wanted Arshad Warsi in place of Kunal Roy Kapur. I said okay, but hereafter, the developments didn’t suit me. I wanted some specific actors, because not everyone could do this kind of comedy. I messaged him (Vashu Bhagnani) to check (about what he said) … but he didn’t get back. I worked on the script… I wanted to do the film, and that’s why I was with it till this point. He talks about his losses. I also allotted a whole month to the film. Have I not also faced a loss?”
Wethinks the Saheb Biwi Gangster Returns actor is at no fault of his own. If Vashu Bhagnani wanted to cast his son Jackky Bhagnani as the lead in Welcome To Karachi he should have discussed that beforehand with Irrfan and Irrfan being the nice guy would have definitely stepped down. But he decided to hit a bit below the belt, we believe. So go ahead BollywoodLifers, let us know what you think about the same.
