An agriculturist and an industrialist, who served as Chairman, Zila Council Rahim Yar Khan during 1987, and as Zila Nazim, Rahim Yar Khan during 2001-05. He remained Member, Provincial Assembly of the Punjab during 1985-88, 1988-90 (Minister for E&T); as MNA during 1990-93, 1993-96, 1997-99 and also functioned as Minister of State. He has extensively travelled abroad. He comes of a renowned political family. His grandfather (late) Makhdumul Mulk Syed Ghulam Miran Shah was an eminent personality of former Bahawalpur State who actively participated in Pakistan movement before partition and was appointed as Minister for Refugees and Rehabilitation by the Amir of Bahawalpur and was awarded the title of “Makhdumal Mulk” in recognition of his meritorious services; his father served as Minister for Education and Health in the Bahawalpur State and as Chief Minister; and also functioned as Member of the Constituent Assembly of Pakistan during 1951, as Member, Provincial Assembly of West Pakistan during 1954-58 (Minister for Information, Local Government and Social Welfare); his uncle, Pir Sahib Pagara is an eminent political figure of Pakistan, his sister-in-law, Syeda Bushra Nawaz Gardezi is a sitting MPA from W-352. Makhdoom Syed Yousuf Raza Gillani, Prime Minister of Pakistan is his first cousin.
