Read to find out what Priyanka has to say about all those talks about her remuneration that have been doing the rounds
Priyanka Chopra’s recently released film, Mary Kom has won millions of hearts. The film, which is directed by Omung Kumar has managed to collect a decent amount from its release. However, talks were doing the rounds about how PeeCee has earned more money acting as Mary Kom than Mary Kom earned all her life being herself.
And here is what Priyanka has to say, “To reduce the life of an Indian hero like Mary to a comparison of how much she earns compared to me or anybody else is taking away from the main message of her life. What she has done is made all of us richer, all women especially by giving us the inspiration that every woman can fight for herself. Every woman can make decisions that make her life more fulfilling. That sports is an experience like life itself. That Indians are no less whatever the field maybe as long as they get the opportunity or create it themselves. A salary is an opportunity cost. It means that you get paid according to what work or what output the employee gives.”
She also says, “”If we were to look at what Mary has given back to the society through her grit and work, even if she was paid a billion dollar per minute she would still be underpaid. Just because it makes for great irony to highlight the plight of sportswomen in India, does not justify comparing our salaries to point out the sad state of Indian women sports in India. I and the film makers at least have brought the story to the forefront in the best way that we can. We are on the side of asking for better conditions for sportswomen like Mary in India….not the other side. I think one should appreciate this effort not negate whatever little difference we will make to highlight these issues through our film.”
Clarifying about her remuneration, Priyanka further added, ” “You are asking this question because we made the film and you are aware of it….otherwise you wouldn’t even be asking this today. And…Making money isn’t hard in itself… What’s hard is to earn it doing something worth devoting one’s life to. Whatever I earn is in the line of devoting my life to creating meaningful and entertaining cinema too for the last 10 years. Maybe there is disparity, but our goals are same….Mary has created excellence in her life and I am striving to do the same….and I hope I earn as much love and respect she has in her life……”
