It’s quite disheartening to see several B-town celebs shying away to comment on the National award winning actress who is embroiled in a prostitution scandal
The Shweta Basu Prasad case has become a major issue with the entire nation voicing their support for the actress. But surprisingly, Bollywood, who is otherwise quite vocal about such issues is just a fence sitter in this case.
For the past month, Rani Mukerji talked a lot about empowering Indian women. Of course it was all part of the promotional campaign for her recently released film Mardaani. However, if you think that all the pro-women speeches were genuinely heartfelt, you might have to do some rethinking. In a recent press conference, Rani was asked about Shweta Prasad’s involvement in a prostitution racket, but Aditya Chopra’s wifey, who was last seen saving a girls from a prostitution racket onscreen, refused to comment. Shocking and hypocritical, isn’t it?
It isn’t just Mukerji who has kept mum on Prasad’s case. Shabana Azmi, who has always openly talked about women’s rights and had also worked with Shweta in Makdee, has said nothing about the issue.
Aamir Khan, our very own social crusader has also chose to not say anything. Looks like the perfectionist Khan isn’t getting some free time from promoting PK.
Similarly, Amitabh Bachchan had tweeted about fighting abuse against women when Priyanka Chopra appeared on Kaun Banega Crorepati to promote her film Mary Kom. There’s been no comment from the megastar about Prasad.
Farhan Akhtar, too who started a campaign against rape and discrimination (MARD) has also not come out in support of Shweta Prasad.
It’s saddening that these B-town biggies have chose to remain quiet, but at the same time it’s also heartening to see how Sakshi Tanwar, who played Shweta Basu Prasad’s onscreen mother in Ekta Kapoor’s popular soap Kahani Ghar Ghar Kii, and filmmaker Hansal Mehta have both made statements in support of Prasad. While Tanwar has been concerned enough to talk to Prasad’s mother and written an open letter, Mehta has said that he wants to offer the actress a role in his film.
