Priyanka Chopra learnt basics of boxing, interacted and spent time with the boxer she was to play onscreen and dedicated hours to preparation for the role. But something she absolutely couldn’t go on screen without was getting the perfect look and prosthetic make-up for the character!
PC and her make-up artist Subhash Shinde spent hours trying to come up with the authentic looks for Mary Kom in the film. Subhash, who has worked for films like Ram-Leela and Grand Masti in the past, is the first Indian make-up artist who used prosthetics in the film! He used the same to give Priyanka life-like wounds and the believable bald look.
About his research for the looks to try on PC, Shinde says, “I visited many hospitals and observed minute details; I wanted to create a clear distinction between old and fresh wounds.”
With Mary Kom, Shinde hopes that his make-up is considered at par with Hollywood standards. The make-up artist gives Priyanka and director Omung Kumar for having full faith in his talent. He says, “It took two-three trials to get Priyanka’s bald look right, but she was very encouraging.”
We can’t wait to see PC in a boxer’s avatar on screen!
