The Inception director is rumoured to be attending Indian Institute of Technology-Bombay’s annual festival Mood Indigo. We tell you why PK actor should avoid meeting the Hollywood filmmaker…
Indian movies ripping off Hollywood flicks is not something unheard of in Bollywood. But when an actor of highly respectable stature like Aamir Khan indulges in blatantly aping the West, it calls for a serious ground reality check on what is considered to be ethical and what is not. Imagine the situation when a Hollywood filmmaker, who’s film has been ripped off to make millions at box office, pays visit to India and accidentally bumps into the star of that unofficial remake at some public event. Sounds fun, na? We bet PK actor Aamir Khan begs to disagree.
The gossip circles are abuzz with the news that Inception director Christopher Nolan will be the special guest at IIT Bombay’s annual festival – Mood Indigo. While there is still confusion if the Memento filmmaker will be actually flying to India, we decided to have a little bit of fun for ourselves and compiled a list of three reasons why Aamir should not meet Nolan, irrespective of his India tour or not.
Ghajini – Memento connection
If Aamir ever bumps into Nolan, how will Mr Perfectionist look him in the eye and swear that Ghajini is not a bad copy of his masterpiece Memento. While Ghajini might have the added Indian masala love story to its favour, how can the 3 Idiots actor deny that Ghajini has nothing in common with Memento. There are just way too much similarities between the two films and we believe that any movie lover would agree with us. We wonder what Nolan would have to say to Khan.
Dhoom 3 – The Prestige similarities
Okay. Lets say if Aamir pretends memory loss and even denies doing a film like Ghajini, how will he defend his last year’s blockbuster Dhoom 3, which ripped off from not one but two Nolan movies. The poster design of Dhoom 3 was strikingly similar to that of Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises . Even if we let that one go by stating that it is very common in Bollywood to steal posters, how can the Satyamev Jayate host deny that Dhoom 3 is just a shabby rip off of Nolan’s The Prestige. Maybe Aamir and the makers thought that tweaking a little details here and there might trick the audience, but neither did he fool Nolan nor did he fool us.
Mr Nolan wants his share
Ghajini and Dhoom 3 were such massive hits at the box office, that the makers and Aamir made a fortune out of it. Now if we agree that basic plots of both the films have been shamelessly borrowed from Nolan’s Memento and The Prestige, without even giving any credit, we won’t be surprised if the Hollywood filmmaker asks for his share of profit from PK actor as he made millions ripping off his idea.
IIT’s Mood Indigo or not, we think Mr Khan should never come face to face with Christopher Nolan, for his own good. Well the good news for Aamir is that Nolan’s Interstellar is releasing in November. Maybe an another Nolan film to steal ideas from, right Mr Khan?
