The ace filmmaker has been constantly making his way into headlines for all the wrong reasons this year

There was a time when Ram Gopal Varma was regarded as one of the most prolific filmmakers of India. His films were known for path breaking story telling and interesting story treatment. Having directed films like Satya, Sarkar, Bhoot and many more acclaimed films, RGV was considered to be the torch bearer of change in Indian cinema. Now, lets take a time warp and see what the director has been up to in the recent times. With a series of box office debacles, one can safely say that Ramu has lost the Midas touch as a filmmaker.

We live in a world where social media rules the roost and it does not take much time to write off someone as history. Ramu seems to have understood it well and the fear of being lost among the plethora of celebrities seems to have had an adverse effect on him. Now a days, the ace filmmaker is resorting to cheap publicity tricks to garner attention. In the light of new controversy that Ramu has courted thanks to his new film Sridevi, Bollywoodlife brings you 5 reasons for you to conclude that RGV is craving for publicity:

Rajinikanth Kochadaiiyaan controversy

“My prob with Kochhediyan is I luv Rajnikant’s boobs how they r n I really don’t undrstand why he wants to enhance thm through 3 D animation”. This is what Ram Gopal Varma had tweeted after watching the trailer of Rajinikanth‘s animated magnum opus Kochadaiiyaan. This insensitive remark from Ramu did not go down well with Thalaiva fans as the enraged fans slammed the director to have lost his head to make such comments. We understand that few celebs like Kangana Ranaut, can be too frank and blunt in their words. But this tweet from RGV clearly indicates that the filmmaker wanted to ride on Kochadaiiyaan’s tremendous buzz and was successful in hogging the limelight.

Blasphemous tweets on Lord Ganesha

On the auspicious occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi, RGV attempted to steal the thunder from the God himself by putting obnoxious tweets on Lord Ganesha. Ramu tweeted,” Can someone tell me if today is the day Ganesha was originally born or is it the day his dad cut his head off?” He did not end it there but went on to make blasphemous comments under the pretext of innocent queries. In a festival where everyone was busy celebrating, Ramu made it a point to make news by stirring up a controversy.

Sridevi controversy

After irking a large section of the masses by posting obscene posters of his upcoming flick Saavitri, RGV played a master stroke by changing ther name of the film to Sridevi. This led to a shocked Boney Kapoor, the husband of English Vinglish star Sridevi, to serve a legal notice to Ramu, asking him to detest from using his wife name in the film’s title. Apparently Boney was worried that people might relate the sleazy film with Ramu’s open confession about his obsession for Sridevi, which would tarnish his wife’s reputation. While it was clear that the film had nothing to do with actress Sridevi, the legal notice slammed by Boney Kapoor has given RGV’s film a much needed publicity. No doubt it was a master plan of Ramu to use Sridevi’s name to get publicity and as always he has succeeded in hogging the limelight.

Sarcastic remarks on Mahesh Babu’s Aagadu

It is a known fact that Mahesh Babu-Srinu Vaitla’s latest flick Aagadu failed to set the cash registers ringing. But the publicity monger inside Ramu ceased even this opportunity to generate news. Ram Gopal Varma made sarcastic tweet,”The dialogue and dialogue modulations of “Aagadu” should be sent to Oscars on a special award…They will truly stand out in world cinema.” He added,”The subjective derivation of Srinu vaitla and Mahesh babu reminds me of a spiritualistic intercourse of leonordo caprio nd Martin scorcese.” Clearly, this sarcastic take on Mahesh’s film did not go down well with his fans who took an umbrage at the director, thus fixing the spotlight on Ramu once again.

Sleazy content in RGV’s films

It is no brainer that Ramu is not even half of the filmmaker that he was in the 1990′s or early 2000′s. While his films have bombed miserably at box office, the filmmaker seems to have resorted to voyeuristic content to grab some eyeballs. His next two films – Ice Cream 2 and Sridevi are supposed to be high on oomph factor and just by looking at the posters of his film Sridevi, one can tell that Ramu does not believe in subtleties when it comes to depicting adult content on screen.
