While an actor of his caliber may not find any role hard enough to pull off on screen, but there are certain risky roles Amitabh Bachchan consented to play that made our jaws drop
Here goes the list…
Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna: Playing Abhishek Bachchan’s raunchy father ‘Sexy Sam’ Amitabh was seen in a role we wouldn’t ideally have pictured him in. Playing a kinky old man who has a fetish for furry hand-cuffs and blonde women, is that a Big B you ever imagined? The character didn’t got down well with the general Indian audiences but the multiplex/metropolitan viewers liked Sexy Sam!
Boom: As Bade Mia, the international gangster Sr Bachchan was panned by critics for his sleazy role. But we feel that this film suffered for being way ahead of its time. Had it released now, it might have struck a chord with the Indian audiences. Who’s to say?
Nishabd: Once a movie maverick, Ram Gopal Varma decided to cast Amitabh in his Lolita-esque story of an old man falling in love with a much younger girl (played by Jiah Khan). Though disturbing and rather unsettling, Big B’s nuanced performance was worthy of appreciation. The film was not received well by the audiences due to its bold subject.
Buddha Hoga Tera Baap: In an attempt to re-establish himself as the Angry Young Man Amitabh played the young and aggressive at heart lead but the audience were disappointed by his stint. Nonetheless, it was a tough film for Bachchan considering he had to perform action sequences at his age.
RGV Ki Aag: Though we thought that it was difficult for Big B to do what Amjad Khan did as Gabbar Singh in Sholay, audience was convinced that some films should never be remade.
Though all these above mentioned Amitabh films tanked at the Box office, nevertheless we laud the actor’s performances in each of these films! A very happy birthday to the ageless superstar!
