At the Cricket Club in Churchgate, Mumbai actor Saif Ali Khan, who is also the son of celebrated cricketer Nawab Mansood Ali Khan Pataudi, announced his association with Prakash Padukone and billiards champion Geet Sethi’s venture Olympics Gold Quest.
The venture is to support and encourage those athletes who have the potential to win Olympics. About participating in the cause of sports through way of acting in sports-centric films, Saif commented, “The main purpose of cinema is to entertain. While such films can be entertaining, I don’t think they should be made with the intention of spreading awareness. At the end of the day it’s a film and not an NGO.”
Now that is something we don’t agree with. Films like Priyanka Chopra’s Mary Kom and Farhan Akhtar’s Bhaag Milkha Bhaag inspired many to pursue sports as a physically and mentally disciplining challenge. Moreover, cinema can educate and entertain simultaneously.
We expected Saif to have a mind-broadening view on this but well, what can we say…
