Zee TV aired the first episode of its latest dance reality show yesterday on 11th October and here’s how it went…
Farah Khan’s Happy New Year team, including Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone, Abhishek Bachchan, Sonu Sood, Boman Irani and Vivaan Shah, will now be seen sharing the joys of dancing on Zee TV’s latest dance reality show, Dil Se Naachein Indiawaale. Team HNY, or Agents of Happiness as they are called, will form the judging panel for the next five weeks and tour three other cities- Ahmedabad, Indore and Delhi- after auditioning in Mumbai.
What’s it about?
Dil Se Naachein Indiawaale, as the name suggests, will be hunting for dancers who dance ‘dil se’. The show, a variation of Zee TV’s Dance India Dance, is not looking for India’s best dancer but for India’s happiest dancer. The contestants will not be judged on the basis of technique or training but on the basis of how much they enjoy dancing. The dancers are expected to dance straight from their heart without a care in the world. Accordingly, there will be no marks allotted to the contestants; instead, they will be given smileys- Okie for an average performance, Sukhi for a good performance and Hasmukhi for a great performance.
What’s hot?
Despite being a common genre that exists on every other channel, the show has brought in a unique concept. Instead of pitting contestants against each other and building the pressure of performance, the show encourages happy dancing. Being the first episode, the star-studded panel of judges made a grand entry with short, fun performances by all. The highlight, however, were not the stars but the contestants who looked like they really really danced from their souls more than their hearts. The best performance for me was the one with an uncle dancing on Balam Pichkari with a lot of aunties around him. Who ever said the senior generation is not as much fun? What made the show even more entertaining was that at least one member from the ‘Agents of Happiness’ would end up on stage at the end of every performance. Everything, from Shah Rukh rolling on the floor doing the Nagin Dance to Vivaan’s hilarious attempt to learn a dance step from a kid, was amazing. Witty as Mr Khan is, he’s sure to leave an involuntary smile on your face each time he comes on stage. Jay Bhanushali, as always, made a great host and Bharti’s presence added right amounts of humour to the show.
What’s not?
Firstly, we had understood that the contestants had to dance ‘dil se’ in the first couple of times the phrase was used. So its repeated mentioning did not emphasise the fact but only annoyed us. It was like the anchors were running short of words. And secondly, we are a little confused; given that the contestants do not have to exhibit technical merit and do not get marks, how will the winner be selected. Of course, we enjoyed all performances but what next? The makers need to make this a little more clear.
Verdict:
Confusion and repetition apart, the show, in two words, is entertainment extravaganza and you’ll enjoy every moment of the fun-filled, high-energy performances.
