Farah Khan’s directorial venture has not only got cash registers jingling in India but also in international markets
Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone, Abhishek Bachchan, Boman Irani, Sonu Sood and Vivaan Shah starrer Happy New Year has fared exceptionally well at the domestic box office. In fact, the musical extravaganza is the fastest film to enter the coveted Rs 100 club and is now inching towards Rs 150 crore mark. Well, it won’t be too long before HNY surpasses that figure. But what’s interesting is that SRK and Deepika starrer has managed to rake in moolah overseas too. The big budget film was released in 40 countries across many international markets and it opened with approximately USD 8.1 million which is the second biggest opening for any Bollywood film. Wow that’s impressive, hai na?
But that’s not all! In South Africa, Gulf region, Sri Lanka and Malaysia, Happy New Year got the biggest opening. Whereas in Pakistan, Fiji and New Zealand, Farah’s film got the second biggest opening. But quite a few territories are yet to open like Germany, Peru, Philippines, Egypt, Nigeria, Morocco and West Indies. Once that happens we are pretty sure the international figures will only go higher.
As for the domestic box office collection, Happy New Year so far has grossed around Rs 137 crore and still going steady at the ticket windows. But will SRK’s film surpass Aamir Khan’s Dhoom:3 collection? Let’s wait and watch!
