The actor who is known to play dark and edgy roles is all set to lighten up in her upcoming film
Though Kalki Koechlin has starred in romcoms like Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara and Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, the Dev D actress will be playing a comic role for the first time. She will be seen as a clingy and scheming girlfriend in Happy Ending. (Didn’t she also do that as Abhay’s Deol’s girlfriend in Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara) also starring Saif Ali Khan. Says a source, “In the film, while Saif thinks they have broken up, Kalki doesn’t acknowledge that and continues to believe they’re in the relationship.” Wonder if her hubby Anurag Kashyup went through the same thing when she told him that she wanted out of the marriage. Whatever the case, they worked it out and now they are friends. Now that’s a happy ending!
Dev D: Her debut film had Kalki transforming from an innocent school girl to a prostitute. An unconventional role it feched her a lot of accolades.
Shaitan: Kalki played a phsycologically disturbed girl who is on the edge.
Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara: In this Zoya Akhtar film, Kalki played Abhay Deol’s dominating and overbearing girlfriend.
That Girl In Yellow Boots: Kalki co-wrote the film that made the rounds of international film festivals. She played a sharp-witted British girl supporting herself by working illegally in a massage parlor.
Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani: This film had Kalki for the first time playing a sweet, simple girl in love with Aditya Roy Kapur’s character who doesn’t reciprocate.
Shanghai: Kalki played a vulnerable and awkward student who gets caught in the murky side of politics. She had to undergo a transformation to look ugly!
Ek Thi Daayan: The actress essayed the role of a music teacher around whom there is a lot of mystery and intrigue on whether she is a daayan or not.
My Friend Pinto: It was more of a guest appearance for Kalki who did the film only because she wanted to do a romcom after playing intense characters.
