A few days back, the veteran singer had expressed his displeasure over women wearing jeans
On the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi, the one who had sacrificed a lot for the dream of progressive India, came a shockingly regressive comment from one of the greatest singers of India, KJ Yesudas. The veteran playback singer objected the idea of women wearing jeans, which startled many.
At a recent promotional event for Ekkees Topon ki Salami, actress Neha Dhupia made it a point to give a strong reply to Yesudas’s comment. Condemning such remarks, Neha said,” This is very unfortunate that women are being asked what to wear and what not, even as our country is moving forward. I feel that the flaw does not lie in the ensemble of women but in the minds of those who make such remarks. I think this thinking towards what half of our total population is wearing needs to be corrected.”
On October 2, KJ Yesudas resented women wearing jeans, stating them to be against our Indian culture. He said,” Women should not cause trouble to others by wearing jeans….What should be covered should be covered.”
While no one from the South Indian film industry dared to raise their voice against such thinking, we laud Neha Dhupia for taking a stand on the issue.
