The crux of the episode is whether sportsmen should govern the country’s sports organisations or politicians – now the answer is very obvious, isn’t it?
Aamir Khan is back with the third season of the social talk show – Satyamev Jayate and the first topic of discussion is the importance of sports in the country. We watched the show and were mighty impressed.
The Good
- The story of a juvenile goon- Akhilesh, who changed his ways as he got enticed by football. Apparently, it was Professor Vijay Barse’s brainchild that changed Akhilesh to become the Captain in the Homeless World Cup in Brazil in 2010.
- The background story of Babita Kumari and Geeta Kumari – wrestling champions of India. It was interesting to see where most parents panic when they have a daughter, but their father’s worry was how to make them wrestling champions.
- The boy wonder Shubham, who at the age of nine years won over 110 matches in the field of golf, was an inspiration. He claimed that he learnt golf mainly from YouTube. Wow!
- Mathew Spacey’s Magic Bus’ initiative to train people from a young age in sports – to build confidence, team work and also so they can someday continue this initiative with others.
- The initiative by an NGO in Tamil Nadu to inspire men and women of all ages to take part in sports.
- Cricket was not the centre of attention for the first time in a sports discussion.
The Bad
- There should have been a little more depth in the Saina Nehwal interaction. It seems she was just called as the celebrity quotient of the show.
- At the end of every Satyamev Jayate episode, there’s a special song that Ram Sampath composes, but tonight’s song was not that catchy or hummable.
- While the Live Mumkin Hai show post Satyamev Jayate is a novel idea; especially seeing Kapil Dev, Yuvraj and Dhyan Chand, but after one and half hour of Satyamev Jayate – we doubt people have the patience to sit through another hour of it.
- Aamir’s constant need to shed tears when someone is narrating their story. Come on man, you can convey your message and feelings without the melodrama.
Verdict
Satyamev Jayate seems to have started on a great note. Within an hour of the telecast of the show, they got response from over ten lakh people all over India. The show is inspirational, however, we believe the makers shouldn’t prolong the duration of the telecast. It’s a good way to start a Sunday.
