The arrest came a few days after the MQM senior leader Farooq Sattar told media that the party leadership had been receiving extortion chits and life-threatening phone calls and text messages. Later, the MQM parliamentarians also wrote a letter to British Prime Minister David Cameron calling for enhanced security for the party chief Altaf Hussain. Hussain, who is a vocal critic of Taliban militants, has been living in self-imposed exile for the past two decades.
