Kollywood is headed for a heated box office battle with three big films ready for an epic clash this Diwali

Diwali is around the corner and the festive mood has gripped the nation. For years, it has been a tradition in Kollywood to release big films during festivals and Diwali has always been the favourite festival for filmmakers down south. With just days to go for Diwali, lets take a look at the films that would be competing against one another at the box office.

Kaththi

After the success of Thuppakki, the terrific actor-director combo of Illayathalapathy Vijay and AR Murugadoss is back with Kaththi. The film also stars Samantha as the female lead and Neil Nitin Mukesh makes his Kollywood debut as a baddie. The music by Anirudh Ravichander has been trending, flooring the listeners with some electrifying tunes. With Shankar’s I out of the Diwali race, Kaththi is supposed to rule the roost this Diwali.

Poojai

Vishal Krishna-Shruti Haasan starrer Poojai is also slated to entertain the audience this Diwali. While Vishal may not be as big a star as IllayaThalapathy Vijay or Vikram, but his last two releases Pandiya Naadu and Naan Sigappu Manithan have enjoyed super success at box office. Director Hari is also riding high on the success of Suriya starrer Singam 2. After 3‘s tremendous success at box office, Shruti Haasan would be making a comeback into Tamil films after a hiatus of 2 and a half years.

Happy New Year

There is no doubt Farah Khan’s multi-starrer is the biggest release this Diwali. The Shah Rukh Khan-Deepika Padukone starrer is sure to mint some serious money at box office, but the real test of Happy New Year lies in alluring the audience with its Tamil and Telugu dubbed versions. While the Hindi version of the film will attract a lot of attention, it remains to be seen if the Tamil dubbed version of SRK’s film does well at the box office, especially with big films like Kaththi and Poojai in the race.
