The original funny man has re-invented himself and has took everyone by storm

There was a time when Govinda’s popularity was as much for his brightly coloured costumes as his comic roles and of course those energetic dance moves. The man was a star despite being over the top.

Though he saw incredible success, Govinda’s career has taken setbacks. By the mid 2000s, he decided to join politics and it is during that time he faded away from the movie scene. After a failed attempt at politics, he quit and returned to films in 2006 with Bhaagam Bhaag, which is still considered as one of the finest Indian comedy film. In 2007, he did Salaam-e-Ishq and he was hilarious in Partner.

However, after 2009, Govinda’s career faltered all thanks to his films like Do Knot Disturb, Chal Chala Chal and Money Hai Toh Honey Hai, which went on to become box office disasters. Today, the 50-year-old has re-invented himself. And we give you 5 reasons why we are super excited for Govinda’s comeback to the movies…

Villain with a twist - Govinda is playing the role of Bhaiyaji, a character with grey shades, who nurtures and trains two abandoned young men (Ranveer Singh and Ali Zafar) to become killers in Kill Dil. And let us tell you that he isn’t playing your usual baddie in the YRF flick, which also has Parineeti Chopra. The new Govinda has certainly done his thing in Kill Dil.

Double dose - Ranveer Singh’s admiration for Govinda is out in the open. So when you have both Ranveer and Govinda sharing the screen space and the former imitating latter’s antics in the film, it has to be a double dhamaka, isn’t it?

Back to hay days - Also releasing later this month, is Happy Ending, where Govinda is a shining part of the star-studded cast including Saif Ali Khan and Kalki Koechlin. His character in the film is very similar to what he was like in his hey days. Didn’t we all love him during those times?

Fit and calm - He is slimmer, fitter and calmer. The actor has lost a lot of weight. He might not be competing with Varun Dhawan, Siddharth Malhotra and others in the 6-pack race, but the actor is looking fit as heck and has been getting a lot of praises for his new avatar.

It’s Govinda - Lastly, it’s Govinda. Nuff said!
