Here’s throwing some light on the Board’s middle finger confusion
If you’ve been following the trailers and the promotions of Rensil d’Silva’s upcoming Ungli starring Emraan Hashmi and Kangana Ranaut, you’d have noticed the cast showing the middle finger to anyone who cares to look. The director calls it “an act of defiance expressing the indignance and contempt that the film’s characters feel for the corruption all around them.”
Sounds to us as good a reason as any. But the Censor Board doesn’t seem to share Rensil or his team’s well-intentioned enthusiasm. Two flashes of middle finger have been cut from the film.
However, Rensil seems content with the cuts and feels that it was “a reasonable cut considering we got a UA certificate.”
The Board, however, hasn’t been consistent on this particular bone of contention. Dimple Kapadia’s middle finger had to be chopped from prints of Abhishek Sharma’s The Shaukeens at the last minute as it was found to be objectionable. But in Happy Ending, Kareena Kapoor’s finger stays intact. Why the partiality?
