5 reasons why Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol’s Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge is a must watch in its 1000th week!
The iconic love story will complete 1000 weeks on December 12 this year. BollywoodLife gives you reasons to watch Raj and Simran’s journey and ‘fall in love’ all over again!
Bollywood has seen many love stories through decades but the Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge has stood out for me like no other. An iconic journey of Raj(Shah Rukh Khan) and Simran(Kajol), the film created history when it first hit the theatres, turning out to be the longest running one in the archives of Indian cinema. The venture will be seen completing 1000 weeks this December(12) and the Yash Raj Films recently put forth a brand new trailer as a tribute to the celebration. I give you 5 reasons as to why you should watch DDLJ in its 1000th week:
A love story minus the digital age
In a modern day world where letters have been replaced by Whatsapp messages and secret meetings take place in Starbucks and CCD’s instead of house terraces, I feel Raj and Simran’s love story could remind one and all of how romances bloomed in the earlier days. They met, they fell in love and they worked it out. A few obstacles in the way yes, but a happy ending is what they got. No Skype or emails, it was all one on one for the two all along. A bit difficult to do the same in day and age isn’t it?
The LOL moments
DDLJ on the whole, screams mushy to me and makes many go ’awww.’ Having said that, the film has certain LOL moments as well. The blouse tearing scene takes the first spot in my list. It showcases Raj, trying to pacify Simran who turns swiftly, leaving a torn blouse piece in his hand! Second, is the one where he pranks Simran with lipstick marks all over his chest, making it seem like the two got down to business the night before. The awkward scene where Raj finds Simran’s undergarments outside her suitcase in the train comes in third. All these moments have tickled my funny bone. Hence I feel you all should share your laughter with me by watching it all over again!
When knowledge is more blissful than ignorance
When I come across certain unknown facts about a film, it makes me want to watch it again and carefully. For instance, I learnt about Aditya Chopra asking SRK to drop Kajol at the climax of Ruk jaa oh dil deewane without informing her, to get a natural sentiment of shock on her face! While the same panned out perfectly in the film, knowing the secret of it helped me enjoy the scene more the next time. To state another example, I found out that Saif Ali Khan was offered the role of Raj before SRK. Hence when I saw DDLJ again, I kept picturing how Saif would have said certain dialogues which made it all the more fun. I bet you would want to have a similar experience right folks?
Sometimes, happy endings are all you want
DDLJ helps me escape the practical world for three hours, which is what I cherish about it the most. In an age where we struggle with relationship issues like long distances, lack of time, careers, parents’ disapproval, religion, cast and creed etc, Raj and Simran’s love story manages to remind me that happy endings can take place. Cynicism tends to get the better of us, but the positivity, idealism and spirit which DDLJ is all about, has a ‘feel good’ factor to it all which leaves me smiling at the end. So if you are stressed, let down or unsure about something, this film will left your spirits like always!
Like D-uh
I would be stating the obvious if I encourage you to watch DDLJ in its 1000th week for the iconic train scene, the hit song Mehendi lagake rakhna, SRK’s “palat” dialogue or his moving words to Simran’s mother in law. But that’s what makes the film epic isn’t it? The simple yet obvious elements. It has is love, romance, drama and tragedy. All in all, this venture by Aditya Chopra encompasses all the requirements which help make the ‘typical Bolywood romantic film.’ So watch DDLJ all over again to celebrate the obviousness of it all. Relive it and embrace it. To put it in modern day lingo, like D-uh, you should!
