Rajkumar Hirani’s latest outing is gearing up to set new Box office records
Aamir Khan’s PK has hit the theatres and has been raining crores at the box office. But yet, the collections of the film, despite being huge has not crossed Dhoom 3 colections at the box office.
While Dhoom 3 had collected over Rs 35 crore at the box office on its opening day, PK could only bring in Rs 26 crore on the first day. Dhoom 3 had crossed the Rs 100 crore mark in the opening weekend itself but PK lagged behind with over Rs 95 crore coming in the first three days.
Given that Aamir is the pioneer of the 100 and 200 crore clubs in Bollywood, does he feel bad that PK could not create records? “It was never expected to beat Dhoom 3. I always knew PK will have a smaller opening because of its content. Dhoom 3 was a commercial franchise and had Tamil and Telugu versions. With PK, nothing such was there.”
Aamir added that he was more than happy with the amount coming in through the weekend. “The film has only shown growth by 20, 30 and 40 percent in the first few days which in itself is indicative of how much people are liking it. In the longer run, we have to see if PK beats Dhoom 3. But having said thta, I feel happy that it has brought in Rs 26 crore on its opening day which is even more than Salman Khan’s Kick. That was a holiday release and this is the second highest opening for any non holiday release. Also, it has the highest grossing first Sunday record now”, Aamir smiled.
Will PK beat Dhoom 3′s lifetime collections? That only time will tell.
