PK, which has got cash registers jingling, carries a social message and therefore the makers want it to be exempted from tax
Everybody is going gaga over Rajkumar Hirani’s latest outing PK starring Aamir Khan, Anushka Sharma, Sanjay Dutt, Boman Irani, Sushant Singh Rajput and Saurabh Shukla. The film has not only fared exceptionally well at the domestic box office but it has also managed to rake in big moolah overseas. While PK will continue its good run at the BO, the makers have expressed their desire to make in tax-free across country. Since the film has strong social message to give out, the makers want PK to reach out to as many people as possible. Therefore producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra and his team want their film to be tax-free.
While talking to a leading daily, a source revealed, “Aamir, Rajkumar Hirani (director) and Vidhu Vinod Chopra (producer) wanted tax exemption for their film even before its release. And now, after it has garnered a good opening at the box office, they thought it should reach more people. For that, a tax waiver would help. Hence, they sent applications on December 21.”
Vidhu Chopra has confirmed the this piece of information. He told the same daily, “It is a relevant film in today’s times. While it’s an entertainer, it also has a strong social message that needs to have a wide reach, and that’s why we have applied for the tax exemption.”
