These Bollywood biggies brought down the house at AIB Knockout on Saturday night introducing the concept of a ‘roast’ to Indian audience
“In this industry it is very easy to make fun of others, but really tough to have the ability to take a joke on you!”, these were words of a director who had come under heavy criticism for his comic caper that didn’t work this year. I remember meeting him and listening to him express his frustration on how people in the film business have a poor sense of humor. Well, hopefully all that changed on Saturday night when Ranveer Singh, Arjun Kapoor, Karan Johar and the team of AIB took stage and hosted the first (and definitely not last) AIB Knockout championship where these Bollywood names ‘roasted’ each other in front of the hundreds of people.
So what does a celebrity roast mean ? To those unfamiliar with the concept, ‘roasting’ someone means taking their pants off in public! The idea is very common in the West with the likes of comedic legends Joan Rivers, Russel Brand, Ricky Gervais, Charlie Sheen being humiliated and insulted by their peers in front of the common public. AIB Knockout too did the same but for a good reason, the event raised over Rs 40 lakh for various charity organisations these celebs support.
Ranveer, Arjun and Karan deserve a HUGE pat on their back for being sports and letting their guards down, putting their giant egos aside and participating in the biggest public insult event anyone has seen. It isn’t easy to have someone say out loud what is mostly being whispered in hushed voices behind your back. The only way to survive a roast is to be prepared for the worst! It’s all in good humor and if the person forgets that, then there is a big chance and he or she might go back home remembering the day as the biggest mistake of their life.
Fortunately for the AIB Knockout, the turn out was massive and these guys were super sports. There was no limit to the things they could say. With their respective girlfriends Deepika Padukone and Sonakshi Sinha supporting them from the crowd, things became more interesting. Most of what happened on stage was impromptu and unrehearsed.
We hope there are many more such roasts in the planning and other celebs after watching these guys lighten up, understand how important it is for humor and laughter to be a regular part of their lives. Take a bow Karan, Arjun, Ranveer and the entire team of AIB for putting up what will go down in history as a landmark event..!
