As the year is about to end, we take a look back at leading ladies of B-town and the style statements they made in their films. Who wore what? Read to find out!
Along with doing justice to a role, what matters primarily for any actress is how she looks in it. There are many beauties who aren’t essentially remembered for their performances. The way they looked onscreen however, has often left a lasting impression on the minds of many. There have been actresses who have made us as well as influential fashion gurus, cringe with their hideous style. Others however have set popular trends with appealing onscreen avatars in their films this year. Here’s a list:
Deepika Padukone
Film: Happy New Year
Stylist: Anaita Shroff Adajania
What we loved: Deepika’s fusion of desi and modern
#The hottie was seen as Mohini, in Farah Khan’s massive hit Happy New Year. This was the first time we saw Dippy essaying the role of a dancer and boy did she scorch our screens with her sizzling avatar. Making an entrance with her song Lovely, the beauty’s shimmering golden outfit was stunning in every sense, followed by a similar one in green which she sported with heavy eye makeup and colourful highlights.
#What we liked was how her character was given shades of the desi and modern appeal. Where on one hand Dippy pulled off the glamorous avatar with ease, she rocked the Indian look in delicate anarkalis like the lemon yellow one she wore in Manwa Lage. The actress was seen sporting a nose ring, which complimented all her attires. Dippy also wore casuals in many scenes and carried off the vintage styled look for title track Indiawaale. All in all, whatever was thrown Dippy’s way, she took it and nailed it with her sex appeal and oomph!
Katrina Kaif
Film: Bang Bang
Stylist: Anaita Shroff Adajania
What we loved: Katrina’s modern and sophisticated form
#Katrina’s style motto was solely modern for Bang Bang. The beauty stunned us all with her Swapnil Shinde white and black bordered gown in the title track of the film. Further, the actress was also seen sporting long cut gowns for song Mehrbaan. Coming to the film, Kat was mostly seen in casuals, with funky shorts, off shoulder tees and denims being her style statement.
#The actress was also seen sporting delicate knee length dresses, which added a feminine touch to her character Harleen in the film. Though we would like to see her in an Indian avatar next, Kat can be credited for carrying off the mod look with such immense comfort.
Jacqueline Fernandez
Film: Kick
Stylist: Tanya Ghavri
What we loved: Jacqueline’s geek and chic look
# As they say, Geek is the new chic and Jacqueline is a perfect example of the same. Seen as Shaina opposite Salman Khan in Kick, the Sri Lankan beauty played the role of a psychiatrist and was seen sporting the Geek avatar for her character.
# Sporting thick frames, with long knee length woolen dresses and coats, Jack made a stunning frame with her sophisticated style. Her Geek form however saw major transformations every time a song hit our screens. Jumme Ki Raat tops the list where Jacky sizzled in a red lace dress by Dolce and Gabbana and floored many with her suave moves. In the number Hangover, the actress was seen sporting delicate gowns while she romanced her Devil Salman.
Alia Bhatt
Film: 2 States
Stylist: Manish Malhotra
What we loved: Alia’s ethnic and modern avatar
#Alia played the role of South Indian girl Ananya in film 2 States. The actress’s look in the same was vibrant and colorful, which was alluring on the whole. With a fusion of ethnic and modern, Alia carried off the youthful style with spunk and pizzazz.
#What we liked was how all her outfits were teamed up with chunky jewelry, jackets or stoles. Be it ethnic skirts like the ones seen in Fab India, a short kurti ,salwar pants, or denim shorts, the Shandaar babe’s attire was always accompanied by delicate jhumkas, heavy bangles, a Nehru jacket or a printed stole. Alia was also seen sporting traditional outfits like the Kanjivaram saree, which she pulled off with ease. The actress proved that ethnic is a fashion trend which she is meant to carry on!
Sonam Kapoor
Film: Khoobsurat
Stylist: Rhea Kapoor
What we loved: Sonam’s fusion of ethnic and boho
#Sonam is termed as the fashionista of Bollywood and is often seen sporting chic Gucci, Prada and Alexander McQueen outfits. Contrary to what she sports on-screen, her off-screen style in Khoobsurat portrayed her as a goofy and funky, girl next door who absolutely loves colour.
#Playing the role of Milli Chakravarty in the film, Sonam was seen sporting attires, which were essentially a combination of fusion and boho. Be it a multi colored crop top with monochrome printed pants, or polka dotted hot pants teamed with shoes sporting an ethnic print, Sonam’s character was given the opportunity to play with colours which is what made her style stand out amongst the rest. The actress isn’t a safe dresser in real life as well which is what makes her a leading fashion icon of B-town today. The same element was added to her role in the film, and Sonam did justice to the same!
So which actress’s style did you like the most?
