A certain mystery enshrouds what Varun Dhawan’s character Raghu in Badlapur will be about but what’s crystal clear is that the actor is not afraid of experimenting even though he is new to the industry.

It would be remiss to point out the similarity between Varun’s Badlapur and Shahid Kapoor’s Haider. No, we aren’t talking about similarity in plot (though both the films are revenge dramas). Rather, we are referring to the critical praise that Shahid received upon the release of Haider, that which Varun might also get for his Badlapur gamble.

The existentialist act impressed critics as they were truly transported by Shahid’s performance of Hamlet. Now it is Varun’s turn to bowl them over with his portrayal of a wronged man. The character traits of both Haider and Raghu in Badlapur are similar, both are slightly crazed, both are the anti-heroes.

Now what is left to see is whether or not Varun’s performance in Badlapur will have the same impact as Shahid’s in Haider did. Haider reinstated our faith in Shahid’s abilities as an actor and the industry is already betting big bucks on Varun’s promising talent. What does the future hold for Varun’s Badlapur? We shall wait and see…
