It has been a fairly good year for Salman Khan. His film Kick was one of the biggest blockbusters of the year, and his so called flop Jai Ho too did more than Rs 100 crore business at the Box office. With the grand wedding of his sister, Arpita Khan, and the eagerly awaited patch up with Shah Rukh Khan, Salman is set to end the year on a high note with his birthday on December 27.

What we couldn’t help but notice is that, both the releases of Salman Khan in 2014 – Kick and Jai Ho, were remakes of South Indian films. This prompted us to take a trip down memory lane to revisit the films of Salman that were inspired from movies down South. BollywoodLife brings you six South Indian remakes of Salman Khan, which worked wonders at box office :

Tere Naam

After immortalising the character Prem in numerous Sooraj Barjatiya movies, Salman Khan made the character Radhe Bhaiya an icon for Indian youth in his 2003 superhit film, Tere Naam. The movie was a remake of popular Tamil film Sethu, through which Vikram gained stardom overnight. Salman owned the role of rebellious youth making his hairstyle a rage among the masses, lovingly called as ‘Radhe Bhaiya hairstyle’.

Wanted

Salman donned the shoes of Radhe yet again as he played an undercover cop in Prabhu Dheva’s Wanted. The film, which turned out to be a huge blockbuster, was a remake of Mahesh Babu’s Telugu flick Pokkiri. Wanted, not only launched Prabhu Dheva as a hit director, but also resurrected the sinking career of Salman Khan. With enough scope for style and action, Dabangg Khan made sure that fans where entertained from start to finish.

Ready

This 2011 Anees Bazmee flick encashed on Salman’s rocketing popularity after Dabangg’s phenomenal success, to dish out yet another hit for Salman Khan. Ready was a remake of it’s Telugu namesake starring Ram and Genelia. After acting in films like Wanted and Dabangg, which showcased the rough and tough side of Salman, the actor ventured into family comedy and emerged victorious with Ready.

Bodyguard

Another big hit for Salman in 2011 was the remake of Malayalam film Bodyguard. Not only did the film share it’s title from it’s Malayalam namesake, it also shared the rousing success which it got at the Box office. Salman Khan, playing an uptight bodyguard to Kareena Kapoor, entertained the audience with his trademark style full of action punches and quirky comic timing.

Jai Ho

The year 2014 saw Salman turning into good Samaritan with Sohail Khan’s Jai Ho, which was a remake of Telugu flick Stalin featuring Chiranjeevi. Though the film was declared dud at the Box office, the film managed to earn over Rs 100 crore, which is much better than what many hit films have grossed this year. Dabangg Khan tried his best to spread a good message and we have to say tasted decent success, thanks to his crazy fans.

Kick

This year’s colossal hit, Sajid Nadiadwala’s Kick, was a remake of 2009 Telugu namesake starring Ravi Teja and Ileana. The film which released on Eid was widely praised by fans and critics and made some insane moolah at Box office. Salman, recreated his Dabangg antics sans the tough cop act, playing a thief and stealing millions of hearts.
