Lingaa starring Rajinikanth, Sonakshi Sinha and Anushka Shetty in the lead has managed to get cash resisters jingling in Tamil Nadu and how! The film which released on Friday (December 12) got mixed response from the critics but nonetheless Lingaa collected Rs 16 crore in Tamil Nadu and broke the opening day record of Vijay starrer Kaththi.

In fact, reports are doing the rounds down South that Rajinikanth’s latest outing has grossed Rs 60 crore worldwide on day 1. But let us tell you that these reports aren’t true. As per early estimates, Rajinikanth and Sonakshi starrer has minted around Rs 30 crore worldwide.
Though official figures haven’t been disclosed as yet, Lingaa for sure has clocked record-breaking collections down South. As for the international markets, well, Rajinikanth’s film garnered phenomenal response in US. ATMUS Entertainment, distributors of Tamil films in US, tweeted last night “#Lingaa continues to rock USA box office. $806190 in 2 days. Already in top 5. Will surely end in top 2.”
