On his birthday, here’s a double treat for all the Rajinikanth fans
Rajinikanth’s much-awaited film, Lingaa has finally hit the theatres today. The Southern Superstar is playing a dual role in this movie, which also stars Sonakshi Sinha, Anushka Shetty, Jagapathy Babu, Santhanam and others with music by AR Rahman. Our critic Subramanian Harikumar is watching the film at a theatre right now. He has sent his first impression of Lingaa. Here’s what he has to say:
“Lingaa tells tale of a petty thief Lingaa played by Rajinikanth who spends his days plotting and looting precious stones along with his gang. Anushka Shetty convinces Lingaa, who also happens to be the heir of Solaiyur, grandson of late Raja Lingeshwaran, to come back to his home town and open a closed temple of Lord Shiva. When Lingaa and his gang get to know that there is an emarald Shiva lingam inside temple, they plan to steal it. Then, we are taken into flashback mode as Raja Lingeswaran, a British collector struggles to build a dam for people of drought struck Solaiyur. Performance wise it is Rajinikanth who shines in dual avatar, leaving you in awe with his style, dialogue delivery and charming persona. The way superstar fights, dances and romances will make you doubt if Thalaivar has just touched his 40′s. Anushka looks a million bucks and shares a decent chemistry with superstar. Mona Gasolina song is one of the high points of first half. Santhanam’s comic punches are bang on and AR Rahman’s background score is worth praising. The screenplay has enough meat as there is a lot happening in the first half. The action sequence on the train gives you adrenaline rush. Rajini looks convincing as Lingaa the thief but steals the show with his majestic act of Raja Lingeshwaran in the British era. We also get a glimpse of Sonakshi, who looks pretty playing the village belle role to perfection. Lets see how the story unfolds in second half.”
